9th Annual Rummage Sale – June 26th – 28th, 2008
We were blessed with the leadership of Clarice Garrison as Rummage Sale Chairperson. Under her direction, we were able to increase the profits to $13,500. Over 70 volunteers were involved this year in pick-ups, sorting, cleaning, pricing and sales of the many items donated. We were also able to assist the following agencies with items needed for their organizations: YW Housing, St. Vincent De Paul, “My House” Teen Housing, SHARE House, Open House Ministries and the ARC of Vancouver. Volunteers were treated to a luncheon on August 22 at the Kamlu Retirement Center.

Warehouse Dance – August 2nd, 2008
The 3rd Annual Warehouse Dance and Barbeque was another success. Once again Beacock’s New Horizon Band filled the warehouse with Big Band tunes while about 80 persons enjoyed listening and dancing. We enjoyed a warm summer evening with a great barbeque and raffle. Over $300 was raised for the ministry.
6th Annual Auction – “In Celebration of 10 years of Ministry” – September 27, 2008
The Annual Auction and Banquet held on September 27th at the Red Lion Inn at the Quay. Income produced from the silent and live auctions, Party Parade, table gifts, sweeps, and additional donations raised $43,000. We were also very pleased to have Mike Donahue of KOIN 6 News M.C. the event. Chrystin Eades shared her story of involvement with Friends of the Carpenter. A pair of Diamond Earrings was raffled off by purchasing Anniversary Gift boxes. Our special thanks goes to Lee Nichols for chairing this event, and providing the leadership to make it so successful! Over 75 volunteers were involved in the planning of the auction.

Christmas with Jim Fischer & Friends Concert
A great time was enjoyed by all who attended the 6th Annual Christmas Concert by Jim Fischer and Friends at the Royal Durst Theatre, December 7th. The 3:00 pm performance was standing room only and the 7:00 pm was comfortably full - nearly 900 people in total. Thank you to all who came and especially to all the musicians and performers who made the concert so special. The concert brought in $10,000.
Festival of Trees November 28th – 30th, 2008
A first for Friends of the Carpenter this year was participating in the Festival of Trees at the Vancouver Hilton, hosted by Vancouver Rotary Club. We were assisted by floral designer, Jan Hampton and many hours of scroll sawing by our skilled woodworkers. Ellie McCallum, Judy Brower and Carol Lehman assisted in the decorating of the tree two days prior to Thanksgiving. FOC participated in the gift shop as well, selling over $1,000 of product, with the help of 18 volunteers. It was a great success and everyone involved had a great time. Our tree was auctioned and graced someone’s living room for the Christmas Season. We are already planning for next year.
Christmas Boutique – December 9th – 19th, 2008
Rather than our annual Open House, we tried something new this Christmas Season. Starting December 9th, we showcased our wood items in a special boutique set up in the product area of the Friendship Center. It was decorated, Christmas music played and cookies and beverages were served. Our products were nicely displayed for ease of shopping. The first day we were open, four persons were waiting at the door to come in. It was a great success, hampered only by the “arctic blast” that made it difficult for shoppers to come at the end.

Thoughts from Jan …
It’s amazing for me to look back over the last 10 years, and to see how far Friends of the Carpenter has come…. from garages and spare rooms, to a facility that greets and engages friends from all walks of life. The friendships that have been formed are truly amazing and definitely God-Filled! Thank you!
Blessings to you all! Jan Cox, Program Manager

Thoughts from Judy… As Financial Secretary for FOC, I’d like to express my appreciation for the financial contributions from our 35 partnering churches in 2008. Their donations as well as donations from individuals are what enable us to continue God’s ministry. We would ask your support in 2009. God Bless you!
Judy, Financial Secretary
