Woodworking & Product Room Activity Hosts

Every Tuesday and most Wednesdays we hold woodworking events at the Friendship Center . Although a variety of tasks are assigned that include sanding, gluing, painting, and drilling, the focus is not on the wood. We invite these volunteers to join in the ‘table’ fellowship of building relationships with our friends and with our Lord. Listening and being present to all those who participate are especially important skills needed for this role.

Woodworkers Open Shop

The Shop at the Friendship Center is open every weekday – Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30 pm and Wednesday through Friday from 9:30-11:30 am . With the support and supervision of the FOC Shop Foreman, volunteers are invited to assist with the preparation of the project kits that we use at all of our woodworking events, as well as the following projects: Adirondack Chairs, Scroll sawing, milling parts for Blessing Boxes, Testimony Crosses, Bud Vases, Habitat Crosses, Son-Ray Crosses, and Coaster Sets.

Woodworker Show & Tells

Held the 1 st Saturday of the following months; January 6, February 3, March 3, April 7, May 5, August 4, September 8, November 3 and December 1. Special demonstrations of Wood Turning were shared by Lloyd DeWerff, Leaf Carving by Ken Westby, Band Saw and Table Saw by Dan Nicholas, and various jigs and projects by Gary Ervin. Volunteer Grover Icenogle has been updating the Volunteer Woodworker brochure and creating “How-To” pamphlets for several of the woodworking projects. Copies are attached.

Woodworker Tool Show

The Woodworker Tool show held at the Portland Expo Center was held on Oct. 19 – 21 st . Many woodworkers and friends ‘worked’ in an informational booth during the 3 day event. The response was wonderful, and many new woodworkers were added to the mailing list.
