Woodworkers Open Shop
The Shop at the Friendship Center is open every weekday – Mondays and Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30 pm and Wednesday through Friday from 9:30-11:30 am. With the support and supervision of the FOC Foreman, volunteers are invited to assist with the preparation of the project kits that we use at all of our woodworking events.
Woodworkers
A survey of 220 woodworkers was conducted in February, and 34 responses were received. The survey was for the purpose of recommitment and scheduling.
Woodworker Show & Tells - January 5th, February 2nd , March 1st, April 5th, May 3rd, June 7th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th, November 1st, December 6th- Gary Ervin continued to supply our woodworkers with many tips, techniques, jigs and planning tips during the show and tells. Brian Trembly of Sticks Bandsaw Milling revisited the Friendship Center doing a demo of his portable saw mill, the Wood Mizer. He sliced portions of the donated Tulip and English Walnut, as well as Cedar and Black Walnut.
Woodworker Tool Show – The Woodworker Tool show held at the Portland Expo Center was held on Oct. 17th – 19th. Twenty two woodworkers and friends ‘worked’ in an informational booth during the 3 day event. The response was wonderful, and many new woodworkers were added to the mailing list.
Auction Projects – Many of our woodworkers made specialty items for the auction; 4 live auction items were made, and 31 silent auction items, bringing in almost $4,000. Benches, picnic tables, wood turned items, , boxes, carvings, and scroll saw pieces to name a few.
Special Projects
Tulip Boxes – Jim DeShirley, Ken Westby – 80 made/sold
Eastwood’s Sanctuary Cross - Dan Nicholas, Brent Stahl, Rodger Stevens
St. John Evangelist Information Center - Gary Ervin – 300 + volunteer hours
